Basically, if you’ve bought a PC that came with certain versions of Vista installed, from June 26, 2009 to January 10, 2010, you get an upgrade to Windows 7 for free! According to the Microsoft Press Release:

“There is a lot of excitement for Windows 7 in the marketplace today. However, many consumers need a new Windows PC for school, work or home before October 22,” said Brad Brooks, corporate vice president, Windows consumer marketing at Microsoft. “So starting June 26th, any customer who buys a PC from a participating computer maker or retailer with Windows Vista Home Premium, Business or …read more

Laptop Deals From Dell

No matter what you think of Dell, their prices still represent the highest spec-for-buck ratio I’ve ever seen.
For instance, the basic Studio XPS 13 laptop costs $999. Here’s what you get for that price:

A 2.0 GHz Processor (Intel P7350)
Vista Home Premium
A 13.3″ 1366 x 768 display, with an integrated 2.0 megapixel webcam
DVD/CD burner
3GB DDR3 RAM
250GB 7200 rpm hard disk
NVIDIA 9400M G
Support for Wireless N (802.11n)

That setup won’t be able to run more demanding games like the notorious Crysis, but it’s powerful enough for practically any other task. Shop for an XPS Studio 13.

Deals of the Week: $30 Wireless Keyboard + Mouse Kit, $40 8500GT

Personally, I don’t have to use a wireless keyboard and mouse. But this kind of combo seems reasonable for those who like sitting comfortably on their couch, as they watch their typed words appear on their HDTV monitor situated across the room. Especially reasonable if the whole kit, a Logitech EX 110, costs $30 on NewEgg.com:

Research Predicting 19″ LCDs to Cost $200, 50-inchers at $1000

Despite all the gloom surrounding the weak(ening) economy, some good always manages to present itself. Stocks for instance, are ripe for buying, providing an opportunity for those looking to buy.
For consumer electronics on the other hand, one of the most important factors—price—has lowered to really tempting levels. Here’s what a prediction figures:
19-inch high definition LCD: $199
32-inch HD LCD: $399-$499
40-inch 1080p LCD: $799-$999
42-inch HD plasma: $599-$699
50-inch HD plasma: $899-$999
All in preparation for the nearing holidays, making sure that the demand will remain high enough for retailers to attain a modest profit on one of the reportedly active shopping days of the …read more
