Was Tim Tebow Blackballed from the NFL Because of ESPN?

Tim Tebow’s not an NFL starting caliber quarterback. We all know that. If you don’t, take off your fan boy goggles. Still, he’s accomplished some impressive things in the NFL with the feather in his cap being the game-winning touchdown to Demaryius Thomas for a playoff win against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Strictly on resume, worth ethic, athletic ability, position flexibility and all around good-guyness, you’d think he’d get a roster spot somewhere — but you’d be wrong. After being cut by the worst run franchise in the NFL, Tim Tebow can’t find work anywhere. In fact, it’s gotten so bad, teams are outright declaring their disinterest in rostering him.

Why can’t he find a job outside of CFL teams looking to make a buck off his name? Look no further than the self proclaimed “World Wide Leader in Sports” — otherwise known as ESPN.

ESPN will interrupt SportsCenter if Tim Tebow so much as works out in a public gym. They pump out news about him every chance they get. From a marketing perspective, the extra attention sounds good — but it’s actually scaring off teams that otherwise would have placed an order for his services.

No team wants a Terrell Owens-like sideshow if they aren’t getting a star quality player in return. Since signing him would be worth no more than a role player who might flourish under the right options and trick plays, NFL teams won’t bite on the former Florida Gator. NFL teams don’t want their team run as a media circus show; they want a legit team that can compete on Sundays and is taken seriously without the “bad” kind of fanfare a ESPN-fueled Tim Tebow brings.

And thus, ESPN’s all-out publicity assault on the religious quarterback has led him into being blackballed by the NFL.
